Friday’s Hunt 2016-2.14

It's time again for a favorite meme, Friday Hunt. I was busy last week with Ansonia's Harvest Festival as chairman of the cultural commission - only four people made the event happen, and it was a great day - but a bit tiring. Nevertheless I am back and here is my post with Teresa's prompts for the week...

Starts with 'N'. I am today choosing New York City in three eras. The first I believe is from 1939, and it is my dad (aged about 11-1/2) I believe on the Queens side off the East River. The next one is from 1961, and my father and his sister (my Aunt Terry) on a building giving another view of the then skyline. The final pic in color was taken by passenger and first officer Patti on the southbound on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in December 2013.

Weeks Favorite. This was last Saturday at the Harvest Festival on Ansonia's Main Street. The first pic is Mayor avoid Cassetti posing with festival mascot 'Harvey' - what a sight! The second is a reflection of some of the city from the Griffin Hospital van, facing dad's Food Truck, a fabulous food destination (think a burger topped with mac n' Cheese if you can :)

I Made This. A few years ago, with assistance from my daughter Allegra, I made a frittata in three stages: sautéed the veggies, added the egg and cream mixture and after it was taken out of the oven and served with a Portuguese red. Thanks again Teresa!

Friday Hunt - 2016-14

It is Friday, so I am ready for Teresa's fun meme Friday Hunt.

For this week, I have an amalgam of old pics that follow the suggested themes (sort of :). For ‘Starts with N’ I go back to 1957 when at age 2, our family lived in Bayside, in the Borough of Queens set in New York City. My sister Micehle (at 3) and I (age 2) took a trip to The City (aka: Manhattan) with Grandpa, Grandma and Aunt Terry. Michele and I are in front of home, 204-07 35th Avenue. And I believe we were on the Staten Island Ferry where Grandpa stands in front of the heart of New York City…

Weeks’s Favorite (actually, always a favorite) is the pic of dressed up Grandma and Aunt Terry (age 15). This pic is always a favorite as we get to see both dressed up in smart wool pencil skirts and interesting headwear. How they were even able to sit down in this style remains a question to me…

Vintage is another old pic from, I believe, 1955. My father, a then reporter for the Atlantic City (NJ) Press lounging with the then biggest comedy act, (Dean) Martin and (Jerry) Lewis. They performed a lot in Atlantic City before their 1956 breakup. Vintage indeed!

SOOC - A Wintry Oasis in the Urban Jungle

The usually fast pace of Lower Manhattan in New York City seems a bit slower when the financial workday ends and a bit of snow falls. So for Straight Out of the Camera - SOOC, I offer another un-edited phone pic from our NYC resident son Cameron. Few people, taxis and speed are about and the peaceful light snowfall add a serenity we rarely see on the urban landscape...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Night in the Big City

For this week's Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I am using a couple of pics taken by Cameron, our son living in the New York City borough of Brooklyn and working in The City (to which to the outer NYC Boroughs of the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn and NY call), Manhattan. He snapped a couple of nighttime phone shots at some park in The City and the results are great, the wrought iron fencing and leafless branches falling nicely on the accumulated snow. For a city with a normally frenetic pace, it seems peaceful and quiet. A world away from what we may be used to...
