Wordless Wednesday - Bold Autumnal Hues

Patti took a trip to Sunflower Farms nearby in Orange CT. On a rainy and dreary Fall day, the gray was  offset by the brilliant mums, so many colors. The perfect antidote to gray...See more WW with NC Sue

Shadow Shot Sunday - Shadowy History

My Aunt Terry has located even more old pics for me to scan, categorize and archive - a real treasure trove of family history going back as far as 1913. For today's Shadow Shot Sunday 2, a series of pictures jumped out at me and given their shadowy content, nice to post today. It is my Aunt Terry as a little girl and other neighboring children in August 1945 on VJ Day (14 August, 1945), holding the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in front of their home at 1645 Oregon Avenue in the steel city of Steubenville, Ohio. Grandpa took lots of pictures, and these celebrate an important day in not just family, but national and world history too. With shadows too...

Friday’s Hunt 2016-2.17

It is time again for Teresa's fun meme Friday Hunt. Every Friday we are give clues and we endeavor to meet these clues, so I am ready!

Starts with 'Q'. The New York City borough of Queens is a perfect 'Q', this shot from early 1961 in the parking lot of Kiddy City in Douglaston a long gone amusement park. The kiddies here are my sisters Michele, Claudia and Vicki, the car Grandpa's 1961 Dodge Seneca...
And to keep the 'Q' in focus, how about these quintet of quackers on the Housatonic River in Shelton, CT
Week's Favorite. Now that we have our magnets advertising our Valley-Voice LLC e-publishing business on my van, it stands out nicely. Here is a favorite view of subject vehicle in downtown Derby, CT
Fall/Spring. Patti captured the autumnal colors of the lower Naugatuck River valley. Taken from the hilltop of Osbornedale State Park, the treetop hues are a wonderful look at the season. Thanks Teresa!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Shadowy Gourds

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back is this crisp autumnal season. Lotos of bold colors in this sea of pumpkins and mums - and many shadows too. The always lovely Patti captured and blogged about the season at Bomba's Farm in our northern neighbor of Seymour CT. Too bad the bold hues of Autumn will be replaced with the stark white snow of Winter...

Friday’s Hunt 2016-2.16

We welcome Friday, as it allows us the next installment of Teresa's fun meme, Friday Hunt  Now armed with our weekly clues, let's begin...

Starts with 'P'. I choose Pennsylvania, on the old US-22 at the WV-PA state line, the always lovely Patti at the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile   in Paris.

Week's Favorite: Bomba's Farm in neighboring Seymour, with one pumpkin draped in pink in honor of Seymour Pink Day, highlighting breast cancer awareness this month. Seymour Pink has been a wonderful resource for us since Patti's five-year travel since her diagnosis and treatment...
Whole. How about a whole pizza made with parmesan, white beans and escarole at our favorite pizza place, Marco Pizzeria in neighboring Derby. Thanks again Teresa!

Wordless Wednesday - In Motion

Around the corner from our Ansonia CT home, the new Emmett O'Brien Technical High School was recently dedicated. This delta shaped view at dusk is interesting - my imagination sees the shape as taking off like a fighter plane or a speedy ship being towed out of the harbor. Either way, it feels like it's in motion...nice architecture! See more WW at NC Sue

Friday’s Hunt 2016-2.15

It is Friday again, and time again for Teresa's fun meme Friday Hunt  The hints are here and I'll pay more attention to getting my linky applied correctly this week :)

Starts with O. This week Ohio starts with ‘O’, and I have two pics that showcase the Buckeye State…top, this pic was taken by pretty passenger Patti in 1999 at the junction of Ohio 7 and US-22 in Steubenville, Ohio. There is a little Ohio on a sign above. The second was taken at the family home in St Paul MN, my big sister standing aside the Ohio license tag on Grandpa’s 1955 Dodge Custom RoyaI

Week's Favorite. Patti participated in last week’s Pounding the Pavement for Seymour Pink 5K as her breast cancer support group Circle of Friends crosses the finish line - Patti is ringing her pink cowbell…
Eyes. I have always liked this pic of our late Sir Humphrey of Upland and his expressive eyes. Thanks Teresa!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Harvest Fest 2016

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back, and so am I after a busy last Saturday at our small city of Ansonia CT and its 2016 Harvest Festival. Being the one-of-four who coordinate the event, I was up and down Main Street and with the brilliant sun, shadows abounded all over the downtown venue. And we introduced a new mascot, the winsome walking pumpkin named Harvey. It was a great day of food, craft vendors, sounds and shadows!

See Monday's edition of our Valley-Voice Newsletter has even more pics - now if we could only sell more ads for said newsletter...

Friday’s Hunt 2016-2.14

It's time again for a favorite meme, Friday Hunt. I was busy last week with Ansonia's Harvest Festival as chairman of the cultural commission - only four people made the event happen, and it was a great day - but a bit tiring. Nevertheless I am back and here is my post with Teresa's prompts for the week...

Starts with 'N'. I am today choosing New York City in three eras. The first I believe is from 1939, and it is my dad (aged about 11-1/2) I believe on the Queens side off the East River. The next one is from 1961, and my father and his sister (my Aunt Terry) on a building giving another view of the then skyline. The final pic in color was taken by passenger and first officer Patti on the southbound on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in December 2013.

Weeks Favorite. This was last Saturday at the Harvest Festival on Ansonia's Main Street. The first pic is Mayor avoid Cassetti posing with festival mascot 'Harvey' - what a sight! The second is a reflection of some of the city from the Griffin Hospital van, facing dad's Food Truck, a fabulous food destination (think a burger topped with mac n' Cheese if you can :)

I Made This. A few years ago, with assistance from my daughter Allegra, I made a frittata in three stages: sautéed the veggies, added the egg and cream mixture and after it was taken out of the oven and served with a Portuguese red. Thanks again Teresa!

Wordless Wednesday - Bounce House Patron

At Saturday's Harvest Festival in our small city of Ansonia, there was a bounce house with no shortage of children, and this girl showed a few acrobatic moves. The unending energy of youth is astounding to this old-timer...see more WW at NC Sue

Shadow Shot Sunday - Gastronomic Shadows

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back a mere two days from Food Trucks in the Valley fundraiser in Shelton CT that we attended. So many food trucks to choose from it was hard to decide on what carb-laden comfort food would make a great meal - I chose a fabulous quesadilla from Ay Arepas  but whatever your choice, it was a great late Summer event for foodies and shadows - the always lovely Patti is in the crowd scene with her camera high while taking a panoramic shot of a happy crowd...

Friday’s Hunt 2016-2.12

It is Friday and time again for a favorite meme, Friday Hunt  Host Teresa provides the clues, the hunt is on and we present our findings. Starting with 'L". first is Landed. On the tarmac of the Minneapolis-St Paul Airport, a United 737 after the plane developed two flat tires upon landing, 07/30/1983. My camera was in my carry-on…
Lighthouse. This one at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven CT, where Long Island Sound meets New Haven Harbor. A classic lighthouse captured March 2011.
Linus McDonald, our furry, friendly, family feline who, like most cats, loves boxes
Week's Favorite. Yesterday, we went to the Food Trucks in the Valley event in nearby Shelton. With so many choices, I went with Ay! arepa from New Haven with a fantastic chicken quesadilla combo. Fine eating!

Critter. I chose a lone seagull on a building at the beach in West Haven CT. Almost regal in appearance, although nobody bowed or curtsied in its presence…
