Shadow Shot Sunday - Shadowy Gourds

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back is this crisp autumnal season. Lotos of bold colors in this sea of pumpkins and mums - and many shadows too. The always lovely Patti captured and blogged about the season at Bomba's Farm in our northern neighbor of Seymour CT. Too bad the bold hues of Autumn will be replaced with the stark white snow of Winter...

Friday’s Hunt 2016-2.16

We welcome Friday, as it allows us the next installment of Teresa's fun meme, Friday Hunt  Now armed with our weekly clues, let's begin...

Starts with 'P'. I choose Pennsylvania, on the old US-22 at the WV-PA state line, the always lovely Patti at the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile   in Paris.

Week's Favorite: Bomba's Farm in neighboring Seymour, with one pumpkin draped in pink in honor of Seymour Pink Day, highlighting breast cancer awareness this month. Seymour Pink has been a wonderful resource for us since Patti's five-year travel since her diagnosis and treatment...
Whole. How about a whole pizza made with parmesan, white beans and escarole at our favorite pizza place, Marco Pizzeria in neighboring Derby. Thanks again Teresa!

Friday’s Hunt 2016-2.15

It is Friday again, and time again for Teresa's fun meme Friday Hunt  The hints are here and I'll pay more attention to getting my linky applied correctly this week :)

Starts with O. This week Ohio starts with ‘O’, and I have two pics that showcase the Buckeye State…top, this pic was taken by pretty passenger Patti in 1999 at the junction of Ohio 7 and US-22 in Steubenville, Ohio. There is a little Ohio on a sign above. The second was taken at the family home in St Paul MN, my big sister standing aside the Ohio license tag on Grandpa’s 1955 Dodge Custom RoyaI

Week's Favorite. Patti participated in last week’s Pounding the Pavement for Seymour Pink 5K as her breast cancer support group Circle of Friends crosses the finish line - Patti is ringing her pink cowbell…
Eyes. I have always liked this pic of our late Sir Humphrey of Upland and his expressive eyes. Thanks Teresa!

Wordless Wednesday - Summer's Harvest

The best of summer is here at the Farmers Market in our neighbor to the north, Seymour CT. Bon Appetite with seasonal traits from local farms...see NC Sue for more WW

Shadow Shot Sunday - Seymour Farmers Market

Shadow Shot Sunday and Seymour make for an alliterative lede for our shadowy meme today. The always lovely Patti and I traveled to our neighbor to the North, Seymour and its Farmers Market. The Gazy Brothers Farm from Oxford CT sold the fruits and vegetables, a bakery and other vendors had items for sale on this hot but not humid day. The freshness of the day won us over...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Flagpole

The summer is still here, and the direct sun overhead allows for narrow shadows below. For this week's Shadow Shot Sunday 2  the flagpole at Broad Street Park in neighboring Seymour, the flagpole leaves a slender shadow on a beautiful August day. It is an attractive small park that sits on the Naugatuck River and sitting underneath the Route 8 expressway. It is a small oasis in the urban landscape...

Friday Hunt, 2016.2-6

It is Friday, and the day for a favorite meme, Friday Hunt, kindly hosted by Teresa. The examples have been noted and the photo archives checked and I am ready:

Starts with E. I have three unique examples that exemplify the letter. On top is a Villers family pic, that being Easter Sunday 1969, and we lived in East Hartford, CT (check out the styles of the day, especially the hair :)
A ‘gunsight’ fender ornament on a 1959 Edsel Corsair - in 1960, its failure caused Ford Motor Co. to lose $250 million, about $2.3 billion (!) in today's money...
Another example, an Egg in the shape of an Elipse
Week's Favorite, which is groundhog that found our patio in this grainy pic (taken though a window and screen). Why he/she was in a suburban neighborhood? Perhaps lured by our mulberry tree…
Bounce. This is an inflatable bounce house/slide at a June street fair in our neighbor to the north, Seymour CT. These items made for another great hunt this week!

SOOC - Dressed Doggie

Last week we visited a local street festival, Seymour Founders' Day. Naturally on such a nice day, many attractive subjects would make for a nice post for Straight out of the Camera - SOOC. This one caught our eye more than the rest - cute Chihuahua canine Carly. A photogenic and pert pup, she dressed very nicely for the occasion!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Late Springtime Seymour Shadows

Last Sunday was the annual street festival in Seymour CT, our northerly neighbor.

The event was Seymour Founders' Day, and it was a sunny and warm day (80°F / 27°C) where shadows fell about all over.

So for this week's Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I offer shadowy views of a nice day full of visitors, vendors and great pad thai for lunch too!

Friday Hunt, 2016-25

It is the end of the work week s we are happy for the return of Teresa’s fun meme Friday Hunt. Here are mine:

Starts with Y. The obvious choice to me is yellow, yet we seem to have no yellow in our yard. However in my archives, I am transported back to around Christmastime 1975 and the Villers homestead in East Hartford Connecticut - its clapboard siding is painted yellow, and six of the seven Villers children are lined up next to it :)

Week's Favorite. Last Sunday in the town just north of us in Seymour CT was the annual street fair, Seymour Founder’s Day. My favorite is the marquee on the restored Strand Theater that welcomes all to today’s event - with the American flags to its side on a spectacular day of warm temps (80°F / 27° C) and the occasional billowy fair-weather clouds that covered the sun just enough so we didn’t have to look for cooling shade…

In my shoes. Well, I have no pics of my shoes (not much to see, since using a wheelchair means that the uppers wear out much faster than the soles :) but I offer instead a shoebox with family feline Linus McDonald comfortably ensconced within. Thanks or all of this week’s clues Teresa!

Wordless Wednesday - Defying Gravity (and sense?)

These BMX stunt riders seem to ignore gravity as they float through the air with the greatest of ease (sort of), while performing at Seymour (CT) Middle School. Cooler than cool! See more WW at NC Sue!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Fraught with danger?

It has been a whole week, and time again for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Last week, Teresa’s fun meme Friday Hunt is back! Patti attended a BMX bicycle stunt show at Seymour Middle School last week. Here, three of the school’s teachers are on the ground where one of the riders was going to ‘jump’ over these brave souls.

I suppose that the rider was going to perform his gravity defying jump sans ramps over the trio. However, he performed his leap - on his feet! No harm, no foul…

The story with more pics was published on our Valley-Voice newsletter on Monday. Should you go, happy reading!

Friday Hunt, 2016-22

Teresa’s fun meme Friday Hunt is back! The themes are here and I thought a trip back in time for two of the themes might be in order…

Starts with V. Of course, I’ll use my last name which is Villers. It is the family name, and my photo entries take us back to the past where myself and my sisters and brother, all seven of us are shown. The first pic is from the Spring of 1969 in front of our East Hartford CT home. I (in the jacket) and two sisters are in Catholic school uniforms. And two wore plaid skirts at that same school
The second photo is from 1987 at my sister’s wedding. She was an officer in the USAF, as was the groom, so she wore her officer dress uniform instead of in white - and quite classy. This the last pic of all seven. Two have passed since then, so it is a great pic to remember us all by…

Week's Favorite. Patti was at a BMX bicycle stunt show at Seymour Middle School last week. Here, an Assistant Principal sits calmly under the performer as he jumps over her. I don’t think they were all that close. However, I am not going to test my theory…

Sunshine. This is another old print from November 1981. Here is a mid-Autumn sunset taken (as a passenger :) on the I-90 Mass. Turnpike between Boston and Worcester, the print taken with a simple 50mm Canon rangefinder. This all shows that given enough light, any camera will do…

Wordless Wednesday - Ironclad

Knight "Sir Lunch-A-Lot." stands guard in Seymour (CT) Middle School, usually in the cafeteria - and now in the auditorium. Being at that awkward middle school age, students need an ironclad knight to maintain order...see NC Sue!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Consignment Corner

Patti discovered a great consignment shop in neighboring Seymour, a place full of stylish goods and shadows too. Thus for today's Shadow Shot Sunday 2, we travel north to Lizzie's Corner Consignment and a look at the shadowy displays amidst the bold colors. Eclectic and cool!

Wordless Wednesday - Giving in Seymour

There is a big event in our neighboring town of Seymour Connecticut, this being the 11th annual TEAM Toys 4 Kids Christmas breakfast at the Baklik home. For he cost of a new unwrapped toy, even Sant arrives - behind a tractor. A unique giving event...see WW by NC Sue
