Watery Songlines - East River NYC

When driving over a bridge (and using a hand control to go and stop) I tend to keep my eyes on the road and ignore the watery views). However, the always lovely Patti in he passenger seat will take a pic should I request, and this one is being posted for this week's meme Watery Songlines.

Here is on the eastbound side of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge (I-678), entering the Borough of Queens in New York City. The East River is a salt water tidal estuary that begins at the Lower New York Harbor and at this point, is near its end at Long Island Sound. This was a winter day where it had snowed but the sun was attempting to shine through the clouds.

It is a neat view that I can more fully enjoy when looking at a computer screen instead of when driving down the road...

Watery Songlines - Waiting for Spring

I am back this week for Watery Songlines, in the season of Spring (technically) and although last nights 2 cm snow has melted, it is chilly now, but Wednesday's 65°F / 18°C gives one hope. Here are the brown for winter grasses in the pond at Osbornedale State Park in neighboring Derby. I am imagining green aquatic grasses on the shoreline and green leaves on the trees on a warm day. I can imagine...but the calendar tells me that Spring is about to spring!

Watery Songlines - Fresh Water in the Winter

Despite living in our four-season climate in Southern New England, I am not much of a fan of Winter - but merely for the cold. Much of the season, though, offered beauty, and not just snow. So for Watery Songlines, I take a look in January at the Lieutenant River in Old Lyme CT. The patchwork of blue on the sky reflects well on the surface. Yes it's cold - but beautiful...

Watery Songlines - Humble Headwaters

This week's Watery Songlines takes us back to August 1983, and the headwaters of the long (2340 miles/3770 km) Mighty Mississippi River at Lake Itasca State Park Minnesota. At 2552 miles/4110 km in length, it is hard to believe one can even cross it by foot - not likely in say St. Louis, but here anyone can. And that is me at ankle depth in my walking days, and for those who are unaware, there is a large stone marker to show the beginnings. Minnesota is a beautiful state full of calm waters like here at Itasca...

Watery Songlines - The Land of Blue Waters

To me, the magic of water seems alive in Minnesota, the Land of Blue Waters. Thus for Watery Songlines, I showcase a picture taken in August 1983 from Big Stony Lake, a four-hour drive northwest of the Twin Cities. This is an early morning view of this state's typically beautiful lake in Minnesota - the water is so clear it acts as a blue mirror to the heavens. But do go in the summer,as the Winter is very cold...
