Friday Hunt, 2016.2.10

Another Friday is here, and we are ready for another fun edition of Teresa's fun meme Friday Hunt. She provides the clues and we look high and low to find said clues. With success I hope :)

Starts with 'J' Today's pic was taken at JFK Airport in New York City. This is my father on the tarmac of JFK in January 1970, just deplaned from a very early flight on the then new Boeing 747 jumbo jet. Look at how people traveled by jet in those days, nicely dressed with the old-fashioned vinyl flight bag on the shoulder and carrying a hard-sided Samsonite briefcase. For reference, I was just a high-school freshman at the time...
Week's Favorite. Just an hour ago, the always lovely Patti captured the setting sun out our back window in the Ansonia Uplands. It almost seems an Impressionist painting, the bold yet soft pastels looking like a just completed canvas in a gallery...
Surprise. I don't know if Linus McDonald is really surprised...but he may have been. Thanks Teresa!

SOOC - Soft and subtle sunset

For this week's post in Straight Out of the Camera - SOOC, Patti captured the sunset from last Thursday from Derby CT over the Housatonic River. The trestle offers a nice demarkcation between sky and water and this slightly pixelated phone photo looks almost like an Impressionist painting of a very nice evening in the Spring...

Friday Hunt, 2016-15

It is a colder day than usual in the Nutmeg State of Connecticut - so, the spirit warms up very nicely at Teresa's fun photo meme, Friday Hunt. We look forward to the hunt, and this week I am using not vintage, but current pics :) Here are my choices for today's themes:

Begins with 'O': I like Orange! The early Spring sky in these parts will do! To the left is a hone pic of sunset at a local shopping center. To the right, it is a sunset, then from our back window at a west-southwest orientation...

Week's Favorite: There was freezing dew during the week and I like these, as the icy branches look distorted on this cold morn, which is what the ice did to the buds. Nice sky, but when will it begin to feel like April?

Spring/Fall:Patti captured yet another male cardinal on the forsythia. It looks like late November (even if it was this week) when the leaves fall off. To the right, some of the forsythia is sprouting their sunny leafy countenance. These views frame the beginning and end of Winter I'd say! As always, thanks to Teresa for hosting!

Friday Hunt, 2016-13

It is time again for Friday Hunt, and Teresa has given us this week’s clues. I went back to the past for two of the three clues, and happily I captured the memories.

Starts with ‘M'. I went back into my photo archives, and I found two…This is a profile of Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey New Hampshire. It was in my walking days, although I was not able to reach the rocky summit at 3165 ft / 965 M. It was autumn so no snow yet…another ‘M’ is my old friend Michael who did make it to the top of the summit in an earlier climb in 1979. More than a few of this week’s letter :)

Week’s Favorite. Just an early spring sunset with bold colors as the sun tried to peek through at the end of a cloudy day…

Wings. This is also an old scanned print from 1984, this being the starboard wing of a United Airlines DC-10, in what was the best flight of my life. Between Los Angeles and Chicago, it was a smooth above the weather. With only 100 or so passengers on this two-aisle plane, there were no bathroom lines and the bar cart was behind bulkhead two (‘Exact change, please’). A wing in flight. Thanks again Teresa!

Wordless Wednesday - Snowy Sunset

Last Friday it snowed, but the snow ended and the sun arrived just before sunset. And the bold sunset added a remarkable set of shadows to the mulberry tree in our front yard. I am not a fan of winter but this is a stylish look at the season...See NC Sue for more WW

Wordless Wednesdays - Aglow

Just a basic and austere Congregational church dots many New England town greens. The Puritans preferred bland to colorful. This church in Shelton CT does allow for a bit of color as the sunset filters through stained glass upstairs. Thus we see a hint of warmth in this winter view...See more WW at NC Sue

Ruby Tuesday Too - Today's Spectacular Sunset

Ruby Tuesday Too allows us to locate and post that arresting color red. Although it was a gray day, the clouds broke just before sunset, and the dappled gray sky allowed the residual moisture to add its prism drops into a fiery ruby sky. The always lovely Patti saw this spectacular sight in our back yard and captured this stunning way to end the day...
