Friday Hunt, 2016.2.11

Friday rolls around and a favorite meme of mine, hosted by Teresa, is back, Friday Hunt. She provides the clues and we look for the pics...

Starts with K: I am looking at a variety of subjects, and I chose a few that may work well and these are…Kids, Kansas and Kettle Korn (which could have been as a yellow clue)

Kids. First day of school, ours in the jumper and red shorts. Ansonia, CT, 08/28/1996
Kansas. My dad at the CO/KS state line; guess the Summer of 1938
Kettle Corn by Giggles, Ansonia, CT
Yellow or Gold: Although I prefer the warmth of Summer, I acknowledge that autumn will occur, so a couple of autumnal pics (2013, I think) help to go for the gold. Taken by our front door (L) and our unkempt forsythia. Thanks again Teresa!

Shadow Shot Sunday - First Days

The new school year began this week in our area. And no doubt many parents took pics of the kids o the first day. So for Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I revert to our now grown kids first days. To the left, September 1, 1995, our experienced Allegra, already an old pro as she began grade 2, escorts Cameron to the school bus stop on his very first day of kindergarten at Mead School. To the right is the first day of school, Sept. 1, 2004. Allegra is the old pro at Ansonia High School entering 11th grade, Cameron a mere freshman. The shadows indicate a bright future and what a difference nine years make :)

Wordless Wednesday - The Clue

Sometimes we don't have to see the entire subject to get what it is. A mere clue may be all we need. Taken by my daughter in 2004 from a bus window in the City of Light...see more WW at NC Sue

Friday Hunt, 2016.2-1

Well, we begin the alphabet anew at Teresa's fun meme, Friday Hunt. The first clue this week is Starts with A. I have three ‘A’ subjects this week that work (I think), in order:
  • Allegra, our daughter. Here is in 1989 at our apartment in Derby, CT is the less than one-year old with her mom. The pacifier sees to be of more interest to her than the photographer…
  • Angelino’s restaurant (excellent :) in Vernon, CT, the name resplendent in red neon!
  • Ansonia, our small city of 19,000 in southern CT. It is about 85 miles/137 km northeast of Midtown Manhattan, New York City

Week's Favorite. How about or friend Rich DiCarlo, President of the Valley Arts Council. This is obviously a staged photo yet we have to look more than once at the large fellow looking ready to pedal the three-wheeled Veomobile to places unknown…

Friday Hunt, 2016-21

I am back for this week’s version of Teresa’s fun meme, Friday Hunt. For the week of May 20th, we are given the clues to find our pics, which for me is an offbeat look at the late 1990’s

Starts with U, which means today Unterseeboot. These vacation pics were taken in August 1999 at the Submarine Museum on the grounds of the US Navy Sub Base in Groton CT. The German word for ‘submarine’ is Unterseeboot, underesa boat. Our children were aged 10 and 8 all those years ago…

Week's Favorite. Last week, a carnival was held in Shelton. The picture was taken in Derby, just across the Housatonic River. The colors fall nicely on the surface of the river.

In the morning. Yesterday morn, Patti captured our furry family feline Linus McDonald looking out the living room window. Perhaps he is looking for prey he’ll never meet given the panes of glass. Or he is sleeping with his head up and eyes closed…

Friday Hunt, 2016-16

It is time again to fit the theme of Teresa's fun meme Friday Hunt. Happily the meme themes can again be met!

1.) Starts with P: I chose two pics that highlight two different iterations of the letter ‘P’, that being my lovely wife Patti and Photographer. She doesn’t drive the Grand Caravan, and chooses to take the pics on life’s journey. Here is passenger and photographer in selfies of sorts…she captures the essence of many a road trip.

2.) Week's Favorite: Patti went to a ‘senior’ prom last week that was an intergenerational event held at Ansonia High School and hosted by a multi-school Human Relations Club. Here, a student demonstrates the ‘Hokey Pokey’. It made for a post in our Valley-Voice blog and this week's Valley-Voice newsletter. Patti had a great time :)

3.) In motion: This is a view taken by our daughter Allegra in 2005 on her way home from a high-school trip to Paris and London when she was a junior. There is an interesting backstory here, as a few weeks before the trip on a rainy day, we were watching four flights that were in holding patterns while flying in the crowded sky heading to JFK airport New York City. When I picked her up from her trip a couple of weeks later, the first thing she said was "Guess what...we were in a holding pattern" I asked where and she noted it was over Groton and New London. (Connecticut). This is the pic she captured. (Most jaded flyers wouldn't think being in a holding pattern is all that cool - she did though :)

Friday Hunt, 2016-11

I am happily back at Teresa's fun meme, Friday Hunt. This week, the themes are Starts with 'K', Week's Favorite and Flower. These were different, thus I had to think about it somewhat - and after perusing my photo archives, I can play!

Starts with 'K'. What else can that be but Kitty Cat. Our furry feline family member Linus McDonald will do here. He sits, unassumingly, at the front window (L) and back. I assume he is not posing although he does offer his demure kitty cat look in each pic...

Flower. This is where I looked in the archives from the Spring of 1991 and our then two-year old daughter Allegra has watched her mom in action and thought she'd like to try it herself. It is an old print with all its flaws - but the cute kid still tugs at hearts :)

Week's Favorite. This afternoon, the lovely Patti captured this warm-day-in March view looking up at the Ansonia Greenway (located upon the flood control levee alongside the Naugatuck River) where Spring is definitely in the air!

Friday Hunt, 2016-08

We are back to Teresa's fun photo meme Friday Hunt. For this week, the themes: Starts with 'H', Week's Favorite and Family

  • Starts with H: How about Horse? These equines were seen in 2014 at Locket’s Meadow Farm in Bethany, Connecticut. This farm offers a refuge for formerly neglected and abused horses, and these were gentle giants. Yes, this one is happily taking a gift of turf grass from the little girl

  • Week's Favorite: The always lovely Patti prepared a Valentine’s Day treat, homemade donuts! There is a difference in these pastries between the usual donut shop and these fabulous examples of fried dough, and what donut seller presents their holiday wares this nicely
  • Family: I offer an oft used picture of our family on the first day of school 1996. Our daughter about to begin third grade, our son first grade, both at Mead School in Ansonia. We are at the bus stop, doting parents and our then cute (and now grown) kids…

Friday Hunt 4-2016

We are back for Teresa's great weekly scavenger meme Friday Hunt. This week's edition includes the subjects as Starts with D, Week’s Favorite, and Beautiful. I have two recent pics and one from 1990 and two of these are subjects that were seen last week, but that fit the theme well in my opinion :)

Starts with 'D': For me it is Demure, and this is our daughter at an extended family Birthday party for siblings aged 8 and 4. I think she took the tiara meant for the younger sibling...

Week's Favorite: It is a pic taken on Tuesday of our family kitty Linus McDonald sunning himself in the front window as the Christms cactus flowers have bloomed beautifully

Beautiful: This is from 1990 when our second born son arrived at his home. I find it so beautiful as Cameron is learning about life outside the womb while mom Patti as the look of wonder and awe at our new family edition. Sweet, sentimental and beautiful...

SOOC - Barnyard in 1992

The idea of unmodified pics is nice, the look at a particular subject frozen in place and time is a great idea. So for this week's version of Straight out of-the Camera - SOOC, I offer a twist.

I found a couple of prints from the summer of 1992. I believe the place is a farm in the neighboring town of Seymour that our children, aged 4 and 2, and these old prints scanned  quite well. I assume the kids liked the views of the animals in their young minds...

Friday Hunt 3-2016

The scavenger meme Friday's Hunt. The clues our host Teresa provides today are Starts with C, Week’s Favorite and Inside. Here are my selection or the week, with notes for each:

Starts with 'C' I showcase our son Cameron. He lives fairly close in Brooklyn, so we see him occasionally in our Connecticut environs. Here is the tall Cam and his sister Allegra at a relative's wedding last August.

Week's Favorites: Here is a giraffe that has been in Christmas garb lately, and the tall fellow is peering over a hedge on Franklin Street in our small city (19,000) of Ansonia. A winsome and tall fellow.

Inside: Here is a recent photo of our indoor kitty Linus by our downsized 3-ft Christmas Tree. He was not a Christmas present this year, but a continuing fun and furry gift in our home!

Wordless Wednesday - Living in the Past

Our daughter Allegra just loves history. When time allows, she is a docent at the Derby (CT) Historical Society. Here, she is in 1762 style as Elizabeth Clark Hull, grandmother of Commodore Isaac Hull, commander of the USS Constitution in the war of 1812. Hull lived to a grand old age of 94, quite uncommon in the 1700s...See more at NC Sue!

Friday's Hunt, 1-2016

'A' is for our daughter Allegra, receiving her Masters degree, Bridgeport CT, May 2015
Favorite: Cam wins the 'Ugly Sweater Contest
I have been looking for another photo meme so as to try (not a resolution to) to have a post a day for 2016. Thus I am joining a meme, Friday's Hunt,  hosted by Teresa at the farm inspired Eden Hills blog. I like her blog, especially all the winsome goats, cats and other winged and otherwise.
Celebrate: Allegra & Mom Share Birthday and Cake, 2007

The simple process is explained by the blog host: Each week I’ll give the prompts for the following week. The first two will be the same, except we’ll work our way through the alphabet. The second can be a favorite image or activity from the week.  The third will be different each time. This week, the three items are: (1) Starts with A, (2) The week’s favorite pic and, (3) The theme
Celebrate

I added captions to explain: The 'A' view was taken from the wheelchair seats (on the top row...) at the arena where Sacred Heart University event was held; Our son Caeron 'won' the family ugly sweater contest last week (it even lights up :); And Allegra and her mom share a birthday we celebrate every year.

Great meme - I'll be back!

Ruby Tuesday Too - Christmas and Kids, 1993

In honor of our favorite color red, and since we are in 'Tis the Season, I submit for Ruby Tuesday Too a pic of our kiddos on Christmas morning 1993, happily posing with their largesse from Santa. Plenty of rubies, the biggest being the Radio Flyer wagon. Allegra (almost 5) and Cameron (3) seem pretty happy this Christmas morn!

Wordless Wednesday - Beach Babies

The kids are grown these days, but they were younger once. Such as a family vacation at Nauset Beach in Orleans on Cape Cod, August 2001. With mom Patti, the feeling of togetherness and love are readily apparent...see NC Sue at WW

SOOC - Allied Solidarity

For Straight out of the Camera - SOOC, we have to acknowledge that the news is not always good, evil exists as we know. Paris is a beautiful city I am told,  and Patti and Allegra have many a picture to prove just that. From an April 2005 school trip, the took this wonderful capture of a Statue of Liberty on Île aux Cygnes with the iconic Eiffel Tower just upriver on the Seine. Solidarity, friendship, allied - this is what I see on a lovely Spring day a decade ago...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Iconic Paris

We know that the world can be bad place - witness the events in Paris. Given the bad in the capitol city of France, there is beauty too. So for today's Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I showcase a picture of the famous Eiffel Tower / Tour Eiffel that was captured by Patti (with Allegra) when on a school trip there in 2004. The lighting underneath the intricate wrought iron structure throws equally intricate shadows all around. Lovely shadows from a historic icon...
